PROBUS Club of Durham West

American Mah Jongg

There are still many members who would like to play Mah Jongg and require instructions. Lessons have tentatively been set to take place at Parkland on Tuesday afternoons from 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. for four consecutive weeks starting in late January. Once dates and details have been confirmed, Bev will reach out to those who have expressed an interest. The instructors are volunteering their time but there will be a small charge to cover photocopying costs.

For, those who have graduated from “Mah Jongg school” we will continue to play every Wednesday at Parkland Residences between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the same room. If Parkland needs to change the room, they will let us know when we sign in at the reception desk. For those of you who have Mah Jongg sets, please bring them to ensure we have enough sets to play with.

If you are interested in playing Mah Jong and have not already indicated your interest, please contact Bev Waite at bev.waite@outlook.com

November

Our last date to play in December will be December 6.  Play will resume again on January 17.

October

On October 30 a small group got together at Parkland Residences with Fran and Loretta (our instructors) for some additional practice.  Lots of fun and laughter and Anne McKenzie won Mah Jongg at her table.  Well done Anne!!

On October 18, sixteen Durham West members gathered at Parkland Place for the inaugural meeting of the Mah Jongg Activity Group. We were thrilled to have two residents of Parkland (Loretta and Fran) teach many new players, and refresh the memories of the balance of the group. Evelyn Buske and Bev Kemp also shared their expertise! The two hours flew by, and during our playing time, Gillian Martin, Ena Shaw and June Booth all achieved Mah Jongg!  (Won a game). The energy in the room was palpable, and a great time was had by all.
